The department of Sanitation was established since the inception of PGIMER. The department of sanitation serves the institute by helping to provide a clean environment to the patients and their attendants. Objectives of Department / Section

 

The department of sanitation is dedicated to provide clean and infection free environment in the hospital. The department is also providing Pest & Rodent control services at PGI. The department also actively liaisons with the different agencies like Municipal Corporation, People for Animals, for handling the issue of stray dogs & Bee hive.

 

Presently the department is comprised of a team headed by APHA cum Officer In- charge Sanitation, a Senior Sanitation Officer, 04 Sanitation Officers and well qualified 03 regular Sanitary Inspectors Gr.I, regular Sanitary Inspector 08 and 07 contractual Sanitary Inspector/Senior Sanitation Supervisors. There are 40 Hospital Attendants Grade-I and Sanitary Attendants Grade-I to supervise the sanitation & housekeeping work of entire Institute.

Various Subsections and their task:-

Sanitation Sub Store: -

a)       To provide cleaning material to the workers deployed in the area not under service contract for sanitation.

b)       The area which is not under service contract for Pest & Rodent Control services is also provided by this subsection.

c)       Mechanized cleaning is carried out.

d)       Disposal of amputated parts

e)       Fumigation services.

 

Major Process / Functions:-

 

Presently the Sanitation services at Nehru Hospital from Level-III to Level-V, New Emergency Complex, Advance Trauma Centre, PET Centre, Gamma Knife Centre, APC, ACC, AEC, DDTC, NINE and RN Dogra Block have been outsourced to M/S BVG Service Pvt. Ltd.

 

The housekeeping services are also on service contract with M/S Rattan Emporium Security Services for Nehru hospital, New Emergency Complex, Advance Trauma Centre, PET Centre, Gamma Knife Centre, New OPD Complex, APC, ACC, AEC, DDTC, NINE and RN Dogra Block.

 

Pest and Rodent control services have been out sourced to M/S JS Pest Control & M/s Truly Pest Control for Nehru hospital and ACC. The areas like Res A & B Block, APC, New OPD, AEC, DDTC, RN Dogra Block, Kairon Block, Guest Houses Sec-12 & 24, and Bhargava Auditorium.

Quality Control Measures

Quality control is maintained by four tier sanitation supervision by SA Grade-I/HA Grade-I, Sanitary Inspector and Sanitation Officer and Senior Sanitation Officer.

A committee has been constituted to inspect the cleaning provided by the provided by the service providers consisting of the following memebrs:

Academics/Research/Training activities:-

Orientation classes for all Health care worker including Doctors, Nurses & HA/SA are conducted every Monday on Bio-Medical Waste management and handling. Classes on hand hygiene and social issue like smoking, alcoholism and other drugs induction are also included for HA/SA.

MANPOWER

Immediate supervision of Sanitation work is done by regular HA Grade-I & SA Grade-I, followed by Senior Supervisors through contractor and regular sanitary inspector, Sanitation Officers and Sr. Sanitation Officer. APHA, OIC, Sanitation and Medical Superintendent also take frequent rounds of the institute from time to time. Sr. Sanitation Officer and Sanitation Officer make surprise check of the institute at odd hours to maintain the sanitation standards of the institute round the clock. There are few committees to look after the proper supply of materials to the sanitation department. The sanitation committee is headed by a faculty member of the rank of professor. .

 

Inspection committee comprises of store officer, Nursing Superintendent and representative of Department. The material is inspected before the issue of the material from the Central Store.

 

Specification Committee: - This committee comprises of a member from the Engineering Department, store and representative of Sanitation Department under the Chairmanship of Faculty member.

On the job training for employees of the sanitation department is conducted regularly with regards BMW management and handling rule and proper use of sanitation material and equipment.
