      Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research  (PGIMER)  is a tertiary  care  hospital
and research Institute conceived  and  established in  1961 as a Center of Excellence at Chandigarh.
Institute was declared as an Institute of  National  Importance and became an autonomous body by 
an Act of Parliament on 1st April 1967.  The 1765 bedded hospital, having numerous Super-specialties 
and Advanced  Centers attends daily to more than 5000 patients.  Apart from this the Institute carries 
out numerous Transplant Centers at PGIMER.

 At present PGIMER runs programmes for:- 

1. Liver Transplant
2. Heart Transplant
3. Kidney Transplant
4. Bone Marrow Transplant
5. Cornea Transplant

Institute is also working towards setting up facility of multi-organ transplantation including lungs, pancreas

and intestine will also be added over time.
