NURSING COURSES

The National Institute of Nursing Education (NINE) is an integral part of PGI campus and is affiliated to the PGIMER, Chandigarh. The Nursing Institute is designated as WHO Collaborative Centre for Nursing and Midwifery development since March 2003. The nursing institute has been contributing to the preparation of clinical nurse practitioners, educators and administrators. Thus it is serving to promote health, prevent sickness and provides bedside care to the sick and suffering.

Teaching lays emphasis on quality education by rigorous practice for clinical skill development. Currently the institute is running three educational programmes i.e. B.Sc. nursing 4 yrs; B.Sc. nursing ? Post Basic (2 yrs); and M.Sc. nursing (2 yrs) in five specialities ? Paediatric nursing; Psychiatric nursing; Obstetric and Gynae nursing; Community health nursing; and Medical Surgical nursing (critical care nursing, cardiothoracic nursing, neurology nursing, nephrology and urology nursing; and orthopaedic and rehabilitation nursing. Both graduate and postgraduate courses are so designed that all students put in 4-5 hours clinical work daily through out their academic course.

Admission to all these courses at Nursing Institute is made once in a year. The admission notice appears in some of the leading newspapers after 20th April of every year. The prospectus / application form is available in the office of Principal, Nursing Institute after the appearance of the admission notice. The selection to these courses is based on an entrance examination which is scheduled in the month of June for M.Sc. Nursing and August for both B.Sc. Nursing (4 yrs) and B.Sc. Nursing (Post Basic) courses. The session starts from 16th July for M.Sc. Nursing and 1st September for the B.Sc. Nursing courses.

Foreign candidate: Candidates belonging to foreign countries are required to route their applications through the Government of India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, New Delhi. They have to obtain Eligibility Certificate from the Registrar, PGIMER, Chandigarh and clearance certificate from the Indian Nursing Council and submit along with the application.
