Bone Marrow Transplant Centre

In past 8 years total 130 transplants have been carried out by the center in various diseases like blood cancers, aplastic anemia, multiple myeloma, lymphoma and thalassemia.  BMT center is serving both adult and pediatric patients and transplants are carried out for malignant as well as benign hematological disorders.  Youngest patient who has undergone bone marrow transplant is a 7-year-old girl child and the oldest patient is a 66-year-old gentleman. Establishment of this facility at PGI is immensely benefitting the patients coming from these states.  The bone marrow transplant centre at PGI is a 4 bedded facility. These rooms are specially designed for stem cell transplant and are equipped with state of the art HEPA filtered laminar air flow system. Main BMT unit is supported by two step-down areas for pre and post transplant care.

 

BMT center is PGIMER is active in introducing new transplant techniques for better health care to the patients. in this line unrelated bone marrow transplant has been started. Faculty members are continuously working to upgrate the facility and in this line haplo-identical stem cell transplant and umbilical cord stem cell transplant are planned to be started in the near future.

 

The approximate cost of autologus bone marrow transplant for an adult patient is Rs 4-6 lacs while the estimated cost of allogeneic transplant would be 10-12 lacs (cost may vary and depends on the disease).
