Academic/ Research Interests

 

  Apheresis Science, Transfusion Medicine, Stem Cell therapies

Established the apheresis unit in the Department Since installation of Cell   Separator (CS 3000 plus) in April 1999.Since then ,more than  10000 Platelet apheresis procedures have been carried out either by myself or under direct supervision. In addition, more than 1000 Therapeutic plasma exchanges have been tried in patients comprising of Neurological, Hematological, and Renal & Vascular disorder. Presently peripheral blood stem cell harvesting is also done in the Department to support various clinical trials on stem cell therapy.

Assisted in establishing the Bone Marrow Processing Laboratory in the Dept. and is actively supervising all the activities carried out in the lab as per cGMP guidelines to support various clinical trials going on in the institute on Autologous Bone Marrow Derived Mononuclear cell Therapy. Has special interest in quality control of blood and blood components.

1. Best Paper Award, 23^rd National ISBTI Conference held at Pinjore, Haryana, India form Nov. 6^th to 8^th Nov.1998.
2. Received the certificate of Appreciation, from National Aids Control Society, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India New Delhi in 2001, for significant contribution in implementation of HCV Screening in Blood banks in the country.
3. Participated in the “Stem cell workshop” at CMC Vellore,India and received hands on training for Mono nuclear cell harvesting and further processing for various clinical trials involving Bone marrow stem cell infusion.

4.  Visited the  Minnesota Cellular Therapy Laboratory at Fairview, University of Minnesota from 23^rd April to 10^th May 07,USA for a short term observer ship & learnt various aspects of cellular processing, Storage (Bone marrow & cord blood),Cryopreservation and related quality issues.

Under the fellowship programme he visited the University of Minnesota, U.S.A, from 1^st September, 2012 to 28^th February, 2013.
